The Month of Sivan

This revelation on Mt. Sinai occurred on the sixth day of the month. Why did the Lord descend and give the Torah on the sixth day of Sivan? Numbers are important in the Scripture. 6 is the number of man, and man and woman were created on the 6th day. But this begs the question: Why was humankind created and the Torah given on the 6th day?

6 is the number of connections in Hebrew. Let me explain. Hebrew is alpha-numeric, which means that numbers are written with letters. The Hebrew letter that has the numerical value of six is the letter “Vav,” which often functions as the conjunction “and,” as in “God created the heavens and/vav earth.” Thus, Vav, which has the value of 6, is the letter that connects heaven and earth.

Adam and Eve were created on the 6th day, but in Jewish thought, the Fall occurred on the 6th day as well. Mankind was created for connection, hence the 6th day — but when they fell, they broke the connection between heaven and earth and lost 6 things.

The Lord gives the Torah on the sixth day in Exodus 19-20 because through the giving of the Word/Torah, the Lord was re-establishing the connection between heaven and earth. But when the Israelites committed the sin of the golden calf, it was like a second Fall. The Torah alone was not enough to restore the connection.

It was for this reason Yeshua/Jesus died on the sixth day as the Messiah! Yeshua was the Word, the Torah made flesh, who died on the sixth day, so that man who was created on the sixth day, might again begin to experience the blessings that occur when heaven and earth are connected! And it was on the sixth day that the Lord poured out the Spirit on Shavuot or Pentecost in the Greek. Yeshua’s death, the Word of God, and the gift of the Spirit of God all occur on the sixth day, and they are all meant to bring greater revelation and connection that leads to transformation!

This a time to experience God, receive fresh revelation, and hear his voice in new ways through His Word and Spirit so that you can be changed and empowered like the disciples on Pentecost/Shavuot in order to transform the world. It’s a time to press in and seek the Lord so you might be filled anew with His Word and Spirit! A key part of this connection involves the fusion, the connection of Jew and Gentile, represented by Ruth and Boaz, whose story is read on Shavuot. The connection of heaven and earth is not complete without the relational and spiritual connection between Jew and Gentile in Messiah Yeshua so that we might become one family again as it was in the beginning!
